iOS 12.2 Beta 2 is Out!
hi everyone Aaron here for ZolloTech and today Apple released iOS 12.2 developer beta 2. this is available to developers and either bet public beta testers later. today or tomorrow normally it came in at three hundred and seventy-four point, four megabytes on my iPhone XS Max let’s take a look at the build numbernow you can see the build is sixteen e five one nine one D and this particular build actually does have a couple new features the first one being the actual battery percentage is on the lock screen now so if you go to the lock screen.
You’ll see there’s a battery percentage if we take a look at the previous build, you’ll see there’s no battery percentage there so there’s a battery percentage on the lock screen now then that part’s really nice now there are a couple new. things such as an emoji so we’ll talk about battery life and things like that in a moment but let’s talk about the features first.
so let’s go into an emoji, now you can see there’s four new an emoji we have a draft we have a shark we have an owl and then we have a pig or a warthog so I think I kind of like the shark so that’s pretty neat we have four new ones so that’s always nice to get those added to the X the XS, XS Max and XR. so it appears they fixed group FaceTime.
let me go into FaceTime and I’ll add a call and I’ll show you that. it works at least on beta 2 now I’m in the video color you can see it here and on my iPad and now if I slide up I can add a person so now I can add myself will add and you’ll see it creates a group FaceTime call so we’ll wait for this and it should work and then it drops so maybe they haven’t turned it on. on the server side but they’ve at least fixed it in the OS now something else.
they’ve changed is in the control center so you can see right here we have a more uniform airplay icon that’s kind of all throughout now if we take a look at the previous version you’ll see here this is what it looked like before.
so the actual previous version was a little bit different they’ve changed it up quite a bit so that’s nice to see them kind of make things more uniform across the OS now the actual notes of the beta don’t say really anything new except that photo sharing using sharing suggestions might not load so if you go into your photos and you share a photo from say CES here or something it may not load properly seems to be working okay for me but for some users that maybe now the next thing is they’ve added a new feature for Safari and that’s to limit accelerate accelerometer and gyroscope access in Safari so let me show you how that works we’ll go to settings and then if you go down to Safari here under Safari under security.
you’ll see motion and orientation access limitations so what we can do to show you how that works is we’ll go to a website now I’m at a website where you can see there’s a bunch of different balls in there of different shape and color if I double tap you’ll see different ones fall and they can be motion based so if I tilt here and what this does is turns off that access.
so if I turn it to this go back reload the page it should no longer allow me to do that. it won’t pick up the motion or exit or the accelerometer or gyroscope built into the iPhone so that’s something that they’ve changed for privacy and security reasons maybe it was a background bug or something like that now there’s a new hint for air pods too and that was pretty interesting because that was found in a hidden place for setting up Siri when you’re using the key word and.
so it talks about new air pods that will allow you to use the keyword phrase to actually activate it so it seems like those are coming out probably by the time iOS 12.2 is released now battery life on iOS 12.2 beta one was about the same as iOS twelve point one point three.
it was not phenomenal you’ll see I have a hundred percent capacity and yesterday if we go to the last ten days I was at 20% at four hours and 16 minutes I’m a virgin between four and six hours of screen on time with these betas hopefully beta two is better but it takes a few days to know that for sure so be sure to check back for the follow-up on that. now the actual speed of the OS seems to be nice and fluid and fast I did notice that in some scrolling it seemed to be a little bit smoother for some reason I don’t know why it feels that way but it does and overall it seems to be fine.
so that part’s good but it will take a few days to know if it’s a little bit better but that sort of contradicts what I found in Geek bench so let me show you those scores now I ran it twice I ran it right after I updated then a little bit later and I didn’t see much of an improvement it probably will take a couple days until we see that.
we see single pore was 4780 multicore was 10863 so it’s okay it’s not as great as before if we take a look at the history you’ll see that it is not as good as it was before now that’s pretty much it for this particular beta other than maybe a modem change that’s built into the OS that they’ve changed the modem and we might see an update with LTE and Wi-Fi now I haven’t had any problems since this beta or anything on LTE or Wi-Fi on any of my devices but I know a lot of you have and they’ve commented that it’s a big problem for you.
so I’d love to hear how it’s going for you after you’ve updated and used it for a few days I’d love to see that for the follow-up and we can try and see if it’s a little bit better on the older devices I haven’t really seen much of a difference or anything it seems about the same scrolling is the same on the older devices you’re not going to see massive increases in speed or anything but they seem to be about the same and again battery life on all of these should be pretty good compared to the previous beta but that doesn’t mean it’s as good as say twelve point one point two was for some people so for a lot of people it may be improved but we won’t know that for a few days but let me know what you think about it in the comments below what your experience has been also I’ll link the wallpaper as I always do.
